planetary chaos, and what does it mean?

Kristen and I were killing time before The Darjeeling Limited a few weeks ago over at the 29th Street Mall. Boulder has the privilege of having many scientific agencies floating around town. So not only do we see many geeks rolling the streets, we tend to have strange scientific displays and occasionally an off beat art piece.

So, while we were stumbling along we saw this strange array of lights and cones as pictured below. I looked up, pleasantly surprised by the cones, and said to Kristen - “Is that art?”.

And then a few neurons fired and I felt a little stupid. Apparently the stack of cones was covering what used to be a planet. Perhaps it was Pluto? I think that big one behind the cones is Saturn, maybe Jupiter. But seriously what happened to Pluto? And why the hell did they cover it up like that? What does it mean?
