Remember those $100 laptops? They’re here and they’re real. Working to enable the children of Africa, these babies are going to rock. Photos Here. Yeah, they look childish, they’re for children. You can pledge to buy one for $300; the extra $200 will buy two more and go straight to kids who need them.

Won’t they get stolen? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see. But if market saturation is so great that there is no benefit to stealing and reselling there won’t be any stealing. But let’s be honest here, that’s gonna take a lot, Frickin Apple has some pretty good market saturation and people are still stealing my iPods.

And if this dream comes true it will be interesting (and hopefully encouraging) to watch all of the other side effects of this project. I hope a billion or so of these puppies come off the production line and shake up Africa like never before (nothing like dreaming about utopia). We shall see.

*The hand crank is missing, bummer. It’s rumored that these will ship with WiFi and a version of Redhat Linux.
