rocked on over to nissi’s (please forgive the terrible music if you click on that link) tonight. my friend latifah - who for some strange reason has decided to go by “tifah” - was supposed to be strummin her geetar round 8ish, so we went.
i can’t tell you how rockin, relaxin, exciting, soothin, downright inspirin her music was. we loved it. and we loved dan the scruffy architectural student who doubled as her drummer. they played, we cheered, they played more, we kept on cheering. this weird cycle of playing and cheering developed. but finally ended when she stopped playing after we cheered.
i used to listen to latifah play when i was a freshman - in the stairwell of our dorm. she used to tell me - “i want to be a rock star ryan”. well hell, she’s makin it. she’s trying so hard, she’s throwing so much passion down. i envy her, i envy her passion, her will power, her success. she’s doin what people dream of every day. the difference, she’s actin on it. you guys will love her tunes, check out her new ep, it’s the best yet. if you can’t afford the ten bucks, keep me posted - i’ll sneak you a peak so you’ll sell those damned baseball cards you’ve been saving since ‘83 so you can buy a disc. you’ll treasure it.
