Electricity
Because of a bit of technical trouble - which i’ll chronicle in a later post - I’ve been holding off telling you more about the exciting weekend of the Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon. The first and last story begins now. Rachel and I were driving back from the Springs when we encountered a rather fierce thunder cloud that began to throw all sizes of water droplets directly at my windshield. My exploder was holdin’ up just fine until SMACK! -
A lightning bold came down from that cloud and struck my car square (or whatever shape lightning bolts are) on the hood. Well, I’m convinced it hit my hood - but it may have hit just in front of my car. Regardless - many things happened during the split second.
1. Rachel woke up
2. My radio died
3. All of the lights on my dashboard started blinking
Everything happened so fast that fear wasn’t really an option. It was over in a flash (no pun intended). Awe is the what we felt. ‘What in the hell just happened? Dit it hit us? Holy Shit, that was crazy!’ a few of the thoughts running through my mind. Meanwhile Rachel was somehow verbalizing all of my thoughts. Back to sleep she went - and I spent the next 60 minutes in absolute silence. I can’t ever remember being in a car for that long when it was so eerily silent. Just doesn’t happen.
And since I’m an idiot for not having rental insurance - I’ve been biking everywhere until my insurance company decides to pay for the damage to my electrical system (the number has already climbed into the thousands). Luckily work isn’t too far away. Anyhow watch out for those bolts - they’ll gitchya.
