bolderBOULDER

48k strong, bTown was filled with all sorts today. From full blown gorilla costumes to elvis impersonators to church bands it sure is hard to meet a time goal while trying to soak in everything going on around town. I missed my goal by almost a minute. I can’t blame anything but the applesauce I had for breakfast though…

Memorial Day. A Medal of Honor recipient spoke to the crowd at Folsom Field today. His story - unbelievable. He saved the men in his batallion by throwing his body on top of an enemy thrown grenade, and miraculously lived to tell about it.

The pro athletes were absolutely amazing. I took a few pics:

Pic 1: Merima Hashim of Ethiopia finished second with a time of 33:17. Pretty impressive considering she just ran a 10k in Palo Alto the night before, and finished second in that one too.
Pic 2: Jen Rhines of Pennsylvania finished third in the women’s 10k.
Pic 3: Elva Dryer of New Mexico rocked to a 1st place finish. She finished 26 seconds ahead of Merima Hashim, giving her enough time to grab an American flag and slow her pace to soak in her victory as she ran the final 300 meters through Folsom Field.
Pic 4: Gilbert Okari and Thomas Kiplitan of Kenya who finished 6th and 3rd. Those Kenyans (their team finished 2nd) were tall and skinny compared to the 1st place Ethiopians who had a more compact build.

hmmmm…
